A bit of morning frost on the grass hid it's pale green, so I decided to play around a little with editing, using primarily 'Contrast' and 'Saturation' controls for those and the moonrise as well.

Enjoyed the images, Dubbya! I think number 3 is my favorite, but now that I read Ambivalent's comment, I keep thinking of fruity candy! LOL:)

Hmmmm. You both have a point. It's Rye grass, better than 'whole grain', so maybe with a little yogurt we could market it as a healthy breakfast cereal.

This is what happens when people comment before breakfast;-)

Experimenting is always fun. The digital world of art is like an amusement park, you can't really say you've been there til you take all the rides.

That's a good way to put it ombra. I briefly worked under the vague 'supervision' of an instructor whose personal style of photography was radically different than mine. Yet he was completely opposed to my experimenting outside of my primary background.

I still believe that viewpoint was ludicrous and narrowminded. People experiment out of natural curiosity, and you never know when, or how, what you learn from those experiments may be useful, or what it may lead to. You have to be open to failure, to learn.

I left photography sites challenges years ago because they imposed "rules" as to what was a photograph and considered most manipulation to be digital art instead. In a way I do agree, but that's not my interest. I could care less how I arrive at a picture, I only care about the end result, whether it's digital or paint. Besides, I hate rules. :)

My background and approach is 'news' or 'documentary'. Years ago [film days] I taught introductory photography classes at an 'Art Center' and community college. Until then I had never run across painters who proudly proclaimed 'photography is not art'; and photographers who insisted photos done in the style of Ansel Adams were the only 'Art' in all of photography's styles and approaches.

I laughed. I also tried to teach that each medium and style should be respected, even if you don't personally appreciate or understand it. First off it's all a smorgasbord, and there is nothing wrong with sampling until [if ever] you choose one area of concentration. Second, I don't believe there is a comprehensively fair definition of what qualifies as 'Art'.

...considered most manipulation to be digital art instead.

It's all open to debate nowdays. Ansel Adams, the 'god' to some purists, manipulated the hell out of his images; from the exposure of the film, through processing and finally printing techniques.

Most of photography lends itself to manipulation, both digital and film. The dividing line imo, is really whether the photographer is trying to 'accurately represent' the subject,[ and/or content], or 'interpret' it. Interpretation by its nature is just an opinion. I say that with a disclaimer that I'm not an art critic or historian; just a lowly photographer who's been in the trenches, instead of looking down from above:-)

squinty eyed look, yeah, there were Several that wanted the skinny on the what and wherefores. For you though I'll give a somewhat shortened version of MY Start in Beta Testing.

Back in the day and I mean back in the day, intercompany messaging type back in the day. Someone Decided that m (me) would be a Good Candidate to beta test some software they wanted to buy. Okayyyyy, so unwittingly m (me) who is Slow on the Uptake and Not privy to the backroom gossip which is If Anyone can make it quit working as in Freeze up......it's m..they Forgot one thing. Ask m to write down each step when going through the software user program. ooops...thence the head thunking, Theirs. It's just one example of what I did. sighhhh There was also something about inventory figures, but I don't remember exactly what that was all about.

So I learned One thing when using a software program, there is head thunking involved. Like when I had to reformat for the First Time a personal computer and more when the mother board went south (in 14 months no less which May not have been me but then again after that reformat maybe) and several other times. If there's a Way to freeze a program, uninstall it and still freeze it up, I'm your gal, so far.

Sooo, I've been Very careful about the Head Thunking, mine or someone else's. The one and only that I do get onboard with in the last several versions is the IE beta testing. I have Heard of No Head Thunking from Microsoft so feel confident they don't head thunk. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any Head Thunking. :)

If I don't freeze the program up, you mean? I'm Still trying to figure out What I did when I plugged my Sony video/camera into the computer USB and haven't gotten it to upload to the computer yet. I didn't know you could freeze a Sony v/c up but I see now that is possible too.

I did get my iPhone to upload pictures and I have some of those which is what I was planning on messing with.....one of these days. Did I mention I'm a procrastinator of long standing?

There must be a thousand ways to freeze or hang a program, and I'm sorry I can't be of any real help. I can suggest first checking to see how much space is left on your hard drive. I've hung PSE in the past, just from trying to download a large set RAW-file photos when HD space was getting tight. It's behavior mimicked a virus slowdown, and then just hung, glaring at me without budging.

Did I mention I'm a procrastinator of long standing?

I'll race you for the title. Later though.

Oh, I've got mega's space.. on account of ....well you know I finally decided a personal computer is ....for being on the internet... haha

No race, I've done won..you can count the photo's I've uploaded on one hand. LOL The photo group probably doesn't Know what to think of my photo's, since most don't show up.

But for you, I'll try that whatchamacallit stuff out..... one of these days. :)

What size are the photos you've tried to upload? Too large or the wrong file type,[make sure you use jpeg], and they just won't get there. I've found keeping them around 1MB [plus or minus] works pretty well.

I have to run, be back later.

oops, I meant number of times I've uploaded several photos. No, it's not that I know about jpeg...took me awhile but figured it out. :) It was a good thing I had figured out how to upload to my private site, but those were scanned photos from like forever. :)

I've found that sizing my photos to 800 x 600 @72 dpi has given me no trouble, and it's about as big as I'll put up. I've had as many as 5 at 600 x 450 with no trouble.

Cool abstract images Dubbya! I have a hard time with abstract, I guess I'm more of a what you see is what you get kind of person. But I do like what you did with both of these originals!

Thanks RL, you're always kind.

I'm not an 'abstract' person either really, but thought I'd dip my toe in it for fun. I don't actually see frost here very often, and by the time I had discovered it, most had burned off leaving it only in the shadows. So, with no 'sun-sparkles' to shoot, and no macro yet, this seemed like an opportune time to experiment.

with great advancements in editing tools the field of photography continues to grow as an art with so many variables and possibilities.I am still at heart a traditionalist, I do enhance a picture to get the best possible exposure and to convey my expressions. I am still hesitant on the more extreme artistic applications, possibly due to my own perspective or my lack of knowledge and or skills. I must remember expolration can lead to growth and new doors can open. Cool pics and thanks for the perspective.

You clearly have the better eye for this. Perhaps because you're able to see something of the finished image in your mind at the time that you shoot. No kidding, and no fake humility:-)
