The turret from the Monitor is a priceless icon from the Civil War, and it will be in the spotlight even more as the 150th anniversary of its famous 1862 battle is commemorated.
Just a few Azalea photos, to celebrate spring and the [current] lack of snow! (These photographs are being published as a part of 'Weekend Exposure', a regular feature of the 'Newsvine Photographers' group)

Towards the end of December, by sheer luck I was in the right place at the right time (and carrying a camera), to be treated to a brief visit by some Bald Eagles, who appeared in a nearby stand of suburban riverfront pines.

A drunken driver with a woman on his lap crashed head-on into a game warden at Hungry Mother State Park on New Year's Eve, according to police. "As to what they were engaged in, you can draw your own conclusions. She was on his lap – we're going to leave it at that."
Totality (December 20, 2010) If I were the man on the moon I would have seen every sunrise and every sunset as they rolled across the blue face of home. I could imagine every waking, every sigh into sleep, omnipresent, everywhere when it matters most.

The midnight knitter has struck again. And officials are stumped again. The midnight knitter (or knitters) remains at large.
"I call them IVF babies, but they are not babies anymore," said Dr. Sergio Oehninger, medical director of the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. "They are young adults."
It's the first week of March, and there is neither snow nor flowers for subjects...but there is the sunrise...and my favorite marsh.

Huge segments of the Northeast were being buried this week by two to three feet of additional snow...yet I woke to find little more than a dusting on the ground.

Any snow, of any amount that actually sticks to the ground is unusual for us. So I had to post a few for foto friday. (All image rights are reserved, please respect that)

Want to know why non-believers sometimes get pissed off and seem aggressive in their opposition to belief? It's articles like the one I'm about to share with you.
Hope your new year is a joyful one, Dubbya R! Don't be a stranger on the vine

Love your photos and your articles/seeds. Thought I'd tell you. :)
You have some of the most amazing photos I've seen for a long time. I've been interested in photography since I was in school (spent many hours in the school's darkroom), and have always kept it as a strong interest. I don't have any good camera equipment right now, but it's on my list to get again one day. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

I am sure glad to have recently discovered you! Just when I thought I had entered a world of disingenuous rhetoric and fantasy ... you with your experience, intelligence, diverse exposure, common-sense and fairness appeared. I plan on following in your 'wake.' Great philosophy! I may be a "slow swimmer," but I carry shark bait just in case I need it!

Hey there Dubbya R. You are one of the "good guys" around here. Keep it up and I'll be seeing you around the Vine!
